Sue Hunt

"My paintings are a continuation of my fascination with paint, the nature of the stuff itself, its translucency and its opaqueness; the energy that it is possible to convey and the quietness that painting can evoke in the contemplation of grouping objects or forms together.
The balance between object as object and paint as paint tends to shift with each composition. Central to the paintings is an exploration of the formal elements of abstraction.
In some paintings botanical and landscape references have begun to appear, this has been a challenge which has interested me greatly, the landscapes are partly real and part imagined, whilst the still life pieces strike up a dialogue between themselves".

Sue Hunt studied for her BA in Canterbury School of Art and her MA in Cardiff School of Art. In her early years as an artist she was involved with many social and public art projects across Wales and also internationally. She was awarded an Arts Council travel grant to embark on a study tour of contemporary mural painting across the USA and Mexico. In Los Angeles she worked on what was then the world's longest mural (working with the Social & Public Arts Resource Centre, UCLA). Painting and Printmaking have remained the centre of her activities She has exhibited widely, in joint and one person shows, and was recently awarded research funding to take up an invitation to exhibit her work in the Jawaha Kala Kendra Centre, Jaipur.
