"My interest in working with digital media has grown out of my passion for traditional printmaking methods, mainly etching and lithography. I feel that the methods of making digital work are similar to conventional printmaking methods in that the complex making process in both plays a significant role in the look and feel of the final image. I believe that each medium has a unique character that can be utilised for its expressive and aesthetic potential. In this new set of works I feel that I have rediscovered 'modern' themes in these original master works and I have attempted to capture and interpret some of the original atmosphere and mystery of these pictures through the technology of computer modelling.

After receiving his MFA from Eastern Michigan University, USA, Tom Piper emigrated to the UK where he taught at the Ruskin School of Drawing, University of Oxford and worked in Fine Art publishing at Editions Electo, London. Piper spent three years in the Middle East, at Burstan Graphic Centre and the Jerusalem Print Workshop. He worked at Peregrine Press Inc, in Dallas, Texas in the mid 1980's before returning to the UK. Tom Piper teaches on the Fine Art course at UWIC where he is head of the Printmaking Department. He is a former Director of the Centre for Research in Fine Art at UWIC and is a founder member of V-6(artists' printmakers and publishers www.virtually-6.com). His recent work combines traditional printmaking methods and digital technology.
